Semrush is widely regarded as the most powerful keyword research tool and the best SEO software solution . Thousands of users consider Semrush to be excellent for competitive analysis, keyword research, content creation, and rank tracking, but many still turn to competing tools for backlink analysis.
We are constantly working on expanding our backlink database, so we decided to do some comparisons.

Of the 10,000 domains selected, 33% had less than 1,000 backlinks, 34% had between 1,000 and 100,000 backlinks, and 33% had more than 100,000 backlinks. Data was collected in February 2021.
From there, we compared the link indexes of the four tools based on the number of referring domains and backlinks to get a good understanding of the quality of the database as a whole.

Comparing database sizes
To begin, we looked at the total number of backlinks and referring domains reported in each tool.
This approach allowed us to estimate the size of each tool’s database, which will give you an indication of where you’ll find the most comprehensive information and the strongest insights for your own analyses.
When it comes to the most backlinks reported, Semrush leads the way. Moz covered 22% fewer backlinks for the same set of domains, and Ahrefs and Majestic generated even lower numbers.
